History

Our first pilgrimage was to World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany in August 2005. After the huge success of this first pilgrimage we have gone from strength to strength and have taken over 877 young people on 18 youth pilgrimages. In the summer of 2008 we travelled to World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia. Since then we have organised successful pilgrimages to Madrid, Spain and Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day, whilst every year travelling and growing our hugely popular pilgrimage to Lourdes, France from 16 pilgrims in 2009 to over 100 young people today.

In 2012 we ventured on a new pilgrimage to Taizé in the South of France. Since then we have journeyed to Taizé every year, and, most recently, in 2013 launched our Taizé two pilgrimage for our young people in County Monaghan. In 2013 we also launched our Assume Summer camp for 12-14 year olds and in 2014 began our first ever Altar server’s camp , known as Camp don Óige.

Every year we provide leadership training, fundraise, deliver school retreats and celebrate the wonderful achievements of our young people through our annual Pope John Paul 11 Award.

Over the last decade we have worked with thousands of young people to provide them with a positive platform to explore, share and develop their faith as a whole. Youth ministry in our diocese is growing and Clogher don Óige continues to be the catalyst and driving force behind this.
