Clogher Youth are up to the Lough Derg Challenge

Before

Twelve young people from the Clogher diocese took up the challenge of Lough Derg and successfully completed it. Here are some of the comments made by those that took part in the three day pilgrimage.

"I feel very calm.  There is a real tranquillity in my mind.  This is a very refreshing because generally I have an overactive mind - I think too much.

I feel energised by the other pilgrims.  The sense of community and of a shared common purpose has been really special.  The long and short of it is: I feel very good!"

"I really enjoyed my time in Lough Derg.  It wasn't fun in the conventional sense but there is nowhere like it.  I love the location; it's so peaceful and isolated.  There are lots of places to sit outside and I took advantage of this fact and would sit and think or read.  There's also a real atmosphere of community and team spirit on the island."

"It was a hard experience but worth it in the end up and show you how thankful for everything you have."

"To find yourself in such a remote place is unusual.  Taken away from everything you really have a chance to look inside yourself and find answers to questions you couldn't answer before."

"It was a challenge to say the least but I'm coming away happy with a fulfilled feeling within me and the thought of home sounding to good to be true.  I would recommend it to everyone; they should at least try it once.  They never know what they might gain from it!"

"Makes you appreciate what you've got.  Not as bad as I thought it would be.  Good to be with people your own age."

"Shows how much you appreciate small things in life like food and sleep.

Good achievement.

Feels like a good relief at the end.

Feel I have achieved something."

"It was a good experience and I'm more grateful for food.  It was a great achievement and being with everyone was great."

"It was a good experience, makes you realise how you shouldn't take things for granted food, sleep.  It was a very hard challenge but I'm glad I did it."
