2009/10 School Retreats
The school year 2009/10 was busy year for the nine volunteers of the Clogher don Óige Retreat Team. The team have delivered twenty pre confirmation, post confirmation and secondary school retreats for 25 schools and 513 students. This is an increase of 6 schools, 4 retreats and 135 students. This success reflects the time, effort and dedication of the volunteers. With financial pressures rising at the minute it is important to acknowledge a number of parish priests and parishes that pay for retreats for the local school children.
The team is made of people from all walks of life including graduates on a gap year, people in part or full time work, people with children who are now grown up or at school during the day and people who have retired from full time employment. Team members give up one day per week to deliver retreats and attend regular planning meetings. Clogher don Óige are always on the look out for new members and if you are interested contact Matthew on 00353 47 72784.
Most of the retreats take place at St. Macartan’s College, Monaghan however the team have also been on the road visiting schools in Smithboro, Broomfield and Enniskillen.
Group sizes have ranged from 10 – 40 Themes for retreats include Confirmation, New Beginnings, Advent & Christmas, Moving on! and gifts and talents. Activities used include games, discussion, creative arts, drama, prayer & meditation and workshops. All activities are linked to the theme and help students explore their faith in their own time and space where they are at on their faith journey.
