World Youth Day (WYD) is a worldwide encounter with the Pope which is typically celebrated every three years in a different country. The most recent WYD was celebrated in Madrid from August 16th to 21st, 2011, and the next WYD will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 15th to August 3rd 2013.

WYD is open to all young people who want to take part in a festive encounter with their contemporaries centered on Jesus Christ. This event is an opportunity to experience in first person the universality of the Church; to share with the whole world the hope of many young people who want to commit themselves to Christ and others. World Youth Day is a unique way to deeWydpen your faith and grow closer to Christ, by means of prayer and the sacraments, together with thousands of other young people who share your interests and ambitions.

Preparation for World Youth Day

In order to get to know other pilgrims to learn more about WYD and to explore faith, we will have six gatherings known as prep days.  Prep days are usually held in St. Tiarnach's Primary School,  Clones on Saturdays and begins at 10.30am and finish at 4.00pm.  The first tow are taking place on Saturday 10th November and Saturday 15th December.  The other dates will be arranged during the first prep day so that dates do not clash with school or college examinations.  Prep day are an important part of the pilgrimage experience and are compulsory.
